UK companies looking to make greater use of cloud computing should ensure they have effective managed network security provision in place before taking up the new technology, it has been claimed.
Research carried out by telecommunications industry analyst Forrester indicates cloud providers should not be trusted implicitly to deliver security.
Analyst at the group Chenxi Wang commented that cloud computing is able to deliver many benefits, although organisations should not rush into using the technology without a clear understanding of the managed security consequences.
"To take full advantage of the power of cloud computing, end users need to attain assurance of the cloud's treatment of security, privacy and compliance issues. To that end, we need an industry with open standards," she added.
Earlier this month, managed security provider BitDefender released its list of main malware threats, in which trojans occupied seven of the top ten positions.
The Trojan.AutorunINF.Gen occupied first place, with older adware trojans Wimad and Clicker taking up the third and second spots.
