Managed network security must adapt to new online threats created by the recession, it has been asserted.
Research commissioned by (ISC)2, Cisco and Government Futures suggests global chief information security officers (CISOs) believe cybersecurity is evolving in terms of management priority from a compliance-focused culture to one that emphasises risk management.
John Stewart, chief security officer for Cisco, commented: "As the nation increases its reliance on networking solutions, a strong online security policy that takes into account the well-formed, front-line opinions and recommendations of CISOs from both the public and private sectors needs to be a central focus of our national security strategy."
He went on to say that now is the time to lay the foundation for a more coordinated IT security programme.
Earlier this week, data protection provider BakBone Software commented that managed security is becoming increasingly important to businesses of all sizes as stored data is now more vital to companies' operations.
