Businesses making use of managed security services are generally approaching a single provider for their needs, it has been suggested.
According to DarkReading.com, many companies are aiming to get hold of multiple capabilities from lone providers, which means it is vital for organisations to ensure they are prepared to invest in a long-term relationship.
Talking to the website, Mike Mulville, chief technology officer at services provider SAIC, outlined the importance of doing so.
"As a company that wades into this, you have to look at the longer-term vision," he explained.
"You have to look further down the road and ask if the vendors have the capability to do what you need to do."
Recent figures published by IDC Government Insights revealed that the public sector is set to increase its investment in managed security solutions in the near future.
The research suggested that the complexity of threats means security has become more important among public sector IT staff.
