A number of companies which are seeking to take up cloud solutions would like providers to also offer managed security, a study has suggested.

Research carried out by Vanson Bourne on behalf of Savvis revealed that 73 per cent of IT and business decision makers want the firms they partner with to fully manage security while allowing for configuration changes from the client.

It also revealed that the ability to manage fluctuating business demand was a key benefit influencing cloud adoption in the US and Singapore, while UK firms are most interested in the lower cost of total ownership.

Bryan Doerr, chief technology officer at Savvis, said "flexibility and pay-as-you-go elasticity" are key drivers in the rising demand for cloud computing.

Enterprise Management Associates' managing director of security and risk management Scott Crawford recently suggested that managed and hosting solutions have become a strong alternative to traditional products.

He added that this was due to a changing perception of data protection, with more firms being open to outsourcing.
