Replication technology enables centralisation of all tape operations in data centers, improving disaster recovery provision, it has been stressed.

According to IT security services provider Quantum, improving local data protection and business continuity is increasingly important in the current economic climate.

Janae Lee, senior vice president of marketing at the group, commented: "Improving data protection and disaster recovery for the branch office continues to be a high priority - and a major problem - for many customers.

"This challenge is complicated by the need to manage backups with fewer resources and tighter budgets."

Lauren Whitehouse, analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, added that storage systems able to leverage deduplication and replication should help IT organisations challenged by data growth and looking for multi-site, multi-tier data protection solutions.

Earlier this week, telecoms giant AT&T claimed the rise in social networking and mobility trends is presenting firms with new disaster planning and business continuity challenges.
