Companies with managed WANs should think carefully before allowing their employees to access their networks with iPads or other mobile devices, a security expert has claimed.

Alexei Lesnykh, business development manager for DeviceLock, said that while these devices can actually be effective ways for work to be performed they come with a number of other risks.

He said that these can be connected to a firm's network or computer easily and, if this is allowed, information could be quickly and uncontrollably copied from the company's managed WAN – which could lead to it being leaked outside of the company.

"The IT security impact needs to be taken into consideration and policy set with regard to iPad use in corporate IT," Mr Lesnykh explained.

DeviceLock recently reported that 33 per cent of IT decision makers have failed to deploy any form of data leak prevention, which could put them at a heightened risk of this type of incident.
