Corporate managed security systems are not sufficiently safeguarding employee access to company information, it has been claimed.
A study carried out by managed data centre security experts at technology solutions provider Cloakware indicates 14 per cent of former company employees in the US still have access to proprietary data and organisational information.
David Canellos, president and chief operating officer at the firm, commented that the need to reduce overhead costs is driving a change in employee work arrangements and revealing weak protection practices.
He added: "Simply put, insufficient security and access management practices can be detrimental to a company's business and companies are only beginning to realise the need for more stringent standards to govern access to their critical information."
Earlier this week, Microsoft's sixth security intelligence report indicated the last six months have seen a significant increase in the availability of rogue security software and a rise in signs that threats are predominantly targeting common third-party desktop applications.
