The majority of IT staff have not fully protected their company against the managed security threat Web 2.0 represents, despite calls for more of the services to be installed in their firms.
Research from Websense shows 80 per cent of IT managers think their firm is fully protected, but figures highlight that they underestimate the risk associated with Web 2.0 technologies and have not secured against it.
The survey shows 86 per cent of IT managers feel their company wants them to provide more Web 2.0 services, but only 17 per cent could fully identify what these actually are.
In addition, levels of managed security appeared to be lacking, with more than two-thirds not having real-time analysis of web content and more than half not having software to detect malicious code.
Jim Haskin, senior vice president of marketing and chief information officer at Websense, said many IT departments need guidance on establishing Web 2.0 usage policies and obtaining the correct managed security for them.
The latest WhiteHat Website Security Statistics report recently highlighted that global websites are not fixing the managed security threats presented to them.
