UK firms are increasingly looking to improve the security of their business connectivity solutions to better protect those working from home, it has been revealed.
According to IT security specialist Smoothwall, many businesses are taking a fresh look at their remote working capabilities in response to the mounting threat posed by swine flu, which is predicted to affect 100,000 people a day by August.
Product manager at the group Tom Newton said: "With mounting concerns about productivity, security and compliance, employers can no longer afford to let the activities of remote workers go unchecked."
He added that web filtering should be consistently applied to remote workers' computers as they often represent a greater threat than staff working within the safety of the secure company network.
Earlier this month, telecommunications group Geo claimed that plans for Britain's digital future are putting too much emphasis on the delivery of consumer internet access over business connectivity solutions.
