Symantec has announced the acquisition of LiveOffice, its erstwhile data archiving partner for cloud-based services. With this new product in their portfolio, Symantec will expand into data governance as well as eDiscovery compliance.

Symantec’s Vice President, Brian Dye, while making the announcement said that, “What were once disparate issues – information management, eDiscovery and data security – are rapidly coming together due to the explosion of electronically stored information and the on-premise and cloud-based technologies that deliver and disseminate it. Organisations are increasingly demanding that these issues be addressed in a unified way through information governance,”

With the new acquisitions- Clearwell eDiscovery Platform, Symantec will be cloud ready as well as provide data vaulting, technologies for indexing, tracking as well as restriction of data for several platforms.

Symantec’s rivals in this capability will be HP with the recent acquisition of Autonomy, EMC, ComVault, Guidance Software.

Data governance is a growing segment and Symantec is well prepared to address this market segment.
