June 21st to the 27th marks Business Continuity Awareness Week in America and, according to software provider SunGard Availability Services, this should act as a catalyst for firms to re-visit their disaster recovery provision.
Brian Turley, senior vice president and general manager at the group, commented: "Business Continuity Awareness Week provides an opportunity for organisations to re-examine their business continuity plans.
"It reinforces the message that IT and business share the responsibility for keeping systems, information and people connected."
The group went on to say that although many companies think they have an effective disaster recovery plan in place, the true effectiveness of an initiative can only be fully understood after it is tested.
Last week, research carried out by software provider Kroll Ontrack claimed IT managers in the UK currently underestimate the seriousness of data loss and the importance of effective business continuity provision.
